“April . . . hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” –William Shakespeare
With spring here it feels like everything is waking up and growing quickly. At this point, the garden is filled with possibility, and throughout the island the sense of anticipation and excitement is almost overwhelming. I have begun harvesting the very first of the purple and green spears of asparagus as they poke up out of the ground. We have also snacked on Chinese chives and leaves of fresh spinach that has overwintered
Casa Verde, our new greenhouse, is now filled to the brim with seed flats, and everything from lettuce to radishes have started to germinate. We are looking forward to help from our first school groups with transplanting starts from the greenhouse into the beds. By the time they arrive later in the month, the season will have truly started to take off.
In the meantime, I am enjoying the youthful garden.
